Thai Wives And Girlfriends - A Few Stories

Anyone who lives in Thailand for a while hears stories about western men (or farang as we are known here) and the bizarre behaviour of their Thai wives and girlfriends. To those looking from the outside it is often a source of amusement. Sometimes it is just strange behaviour. Other times it is a shocking willingness to totally cheat their farang partners.

Some of the things these women do just make you laugh but there are other times they take
your breath away with the sheer audacity of their actions; their ability to put aside any semblance of morals and just scheme away to their own ends. There are other times when it is just their plain stupidity that takes the breath away.

The following four stories all happened around my own little housing estate in Phuket where there are quite a few farang-Thai couples. These stories are just a small sample of the things Thai women can get up to.

Unreasonable Behaviour

A young European guy and his Thai girlfriend have lived in the house opposite me for the last three months. They are both very sociable and quickly introduced themselves. We sometimes share a few drinks in the garden He seems like an easy-going guy. She is very chatty and usually happy. She doesn't drink, smoke, gamble or take drugs which is a promising start for Thai girlfriend material.

The problem is she regularly goes completely off the rails. Every two or three days they have a huge argument. I say argument, but in fact it is usually only her voice you can hear screaming abuse. She throws things, windows get broken and then there are tears and drama in the street.

The upshot is usually that she packs her bags and declares she is leaving for good. A big show is made of this. She comes to say goodbye to us because she is never going to see us again. She calls a taxi and then stands outside her house shouting to her boyfriend that she is leaving for good.

He quietly stays inside and ignores the whole charade. The thing is we all know she isn't leaving. She may be back the same day. If not, she will return the next day somehow looking triumphant. In fact, this pretence of leaving has become so shallow that instead of taking her packed bags, she now makes a habit of hiding them in our house so she doesn't have the hassle of carrying them.

What are the arguments about? Some of them are the usual accusation that he is playing
around with other women. Often, it is that he has spent money on something she thinks is wasteful. But it is HIS money! He pays her a generous allowance. When Thai women do this routine of trying to stop their farang boyfriends spending their money, it is not because they want to save him money. There is a simpler motive. The more the boyfriend spends, the less there is leftover for her to squeeze out of him.

This girl has already told my wife she has three other farang boyfriends. This is one of the things us westerners just don't get. It is not only that they play these games and deceive their boyfriends. They think it is something to boast about and if they can boast about it right under their boyfriend's nose, all the better. Why she thought my wife wouldn't tell me, I don't know. She probably assumes all Thai women deceive their farang partners and that my wife would be impressed at her cunning.

I wouldn't get involved in other people's relationships so I will not be telling this guy about the other boyfriends. Anyway, I don't think he is such a fool. He is returning to Europe this week and I doubt if he will be continuing his relationship with this particular Thai girl - but you never know.

Gambling

The previous occupants of this same house were a European guy and his Thai wife. He worked in Europe for six months a year and lived in Phuket for the other six months. He had been doing this for years and when he was in Phuket, they always seemed to have a good relationship. The problem was that for the six months he was away, his wife had to entertain herself and her vice was gambling.

Gambling really does seem to be a major problem for some Thai women. I know several of the Thai wives on our estate play a regular card game. They all say the same thing. It is just a bit of fun for small money. I have seen them play and it is not for fun. They get very intense, there is little conversation and although the stakes start small, they quickly grow. I have heard of women winning or losing as much as 30,000 baht in these 'fun' games.

There seems to be something in the Thai mentality that leaves them very open to gambling
addiction. Perhaps it is their belief in lucky numbers and fate. Whatever it is, there is good reason why gambling is illegal in Thailand. It is an endless source of problems, especially for Thai women with money and time on their hands such as wives of farang.

So every morning this Thai woman set off for her local card game. Sometimes she would be gone for two or three days - they really can play that long. She had been doing this for years and I guess she wasn't losing too much. But then the problems started.

The first sign was when she started asking to borrow money. At first, it was only small sums that we were happy to give her. But then she wanted 10,000 baht. I knew this was a sign of a serious problem. She was chasing her losses. The only way she could repay the money was if she got lucky at cards so I refused her the loan.

Of course, there are other ways to borrow money in Thailand. Once one of these girls is on the slope she will keep sliding. Soon there were rough looking Thai men appearing on her doorstep demanding repayment. She sold her motorbike and started renting one instead. She sold jewelry and furniture but used the money to chase her losses and the loan sharks kept appearing. She started disappearing for a week at a time. It was obvious her situation was out of control. Then she was gone.

I don't think the loan sharks got her. She packed her bags in the middle of the night and ran. There were rumours about how much she owed and for those sorts of sums she would have
to do a good job of disappearing. There were calls from her husband asking why he could not contact his wife. When he returned to Phuket, there was no sign of her. She had not returned to her family, or at least not that they would admit. She just ran away from it all, the debts and the marriage.

Pretend Pregnancies

A good friend of mine was very pleased that his wife was expecting their first child. His wife's sister was also pleased but for slightly different reasons. She wanted copies of the ultrasound scans of the foetus. She had an Australian boyfriend who she was siphoning like an old banger. She had already twice convinced him she was pregnant and needed medical expenses. Then of course, she had two miscarriages and so needed more medical expenses.

Now she was trying the same routine for a third time but he was proving a little harder to convince. He wanted to see the ultrasound scans. So what good fortune that her sister just happened to be pregnant.

My friend absolutely put his foot down. No way would he let his child be used as a tool in a Thai bargirl scam. It is one thing to stand back and watch these girls rip off their farang boyfriends. It is a totally different thing to play an active role in the deception.

Without a copy of an ultrasound scan, her bluff was called and she was caught out. The Aussie boyfriend dumped her. All kinds of drama followed. She had a Thai boyfriend and together they were living the high life. Without her benefactor, she quickly ran up huge debts. The Thai boyfriend left her. She got her mother to take out a loan. She defaulted on the loan and her mother spent two days in prison until my friend paid her bail - after all, she is also the mother of his wife.

So much drama and heartache that you think she might actually learn her lesson. And then would you believe it - the Aussie boyfriend decided to give her another chance. Now she is spending his money like water again and convinced that everything she did has worked out for the best.

Oh yeah, one other thing she hasn't told the Aussie boyfriend. He is very keen to start a family but she cannot have children. She is infertile.

Losing Everything

All these previous stories fade in significance compared to what happened to this guy. I don't know him personally but I know his neighbours. He worked in Bangkok and came to Phuket at weekends to see his wife. Their relationship was already rocky and they were working towards agreeing an amicable split. They owned the house but there was still an outstanding mortgage.

One weekend he returned home to find it deserted. Everything of value was gone. He was confused and started looking for an explanation. He was soon given one by a bank representative who arrived shortly afterwards. The bank has repossessed the house. "That cannot be" said this guy. "I pay the mortgage every month". The bank guy explained - "that mortgage is with a different bank. Your wife took a second mortgage on the property and she has not paid."

The farang guy realised he had lost verything. He started looking for a way out but there was none. Can I take over the payments? It is too late. I will get a lawyer! It is too late. We have been taking action for months. It is finished now. In a blind fury, this farang guy started smashing up the house. The bank called the police and they arrested him. The house was no longer his property so he would have to pay for the damages.

Over the next few days, the full extent of his wife's treachery became apparent. She had
not only taken a second mortgage on the property but also she had used it as collateral for
a loan from the local mafia. She had taken the money and disappeared. There were now two banks and the local mafia arguing over who had claim to his house.

I had met his wife only once a few weeks before. She came around our house asking for a
100,000-baht loan. She said she would write up a contract and pay back 110,000 baht the very
next week. Naturally, we refused this generous offer. She must have known even then that she had no intention of paying. She carried on doing the rounds until she found a sucker willing to give the loan. It was actually a local Thai guy she fleeced. It is a small world. Another friend of mine recently met this farang guy working offshore. He was working all the hours he could get to pay off his debts. The bank with the original mortgage has insisted he must pay it off or they will have him blacklisted from Thailand. He still loves Thailand and his life here and does not want to be blacklisted.

Conclusion

I certainly don't want to generalize and say all Thai women are scheming or crazy. All four of these women had one thing in common; they had all worked in the sex industry. That is not to say that all Thai girls from the sex industry are bad. It is not even that all Thai girls who have never worked in the sex industry are good. However, on the whole this sort of behaviour is much more likely to come from women who have worked in the sex industry.

The tourist sector of the sex industry is all about extracting as much money as possible from the customers. The girls learn to lie, scheme and play their customers like a fiddle. They can take the same mentality into their long-term relationships. They are still playing the game and unfortunately, the basis of their relationship is how much money they can squeeze from their farang.

I do know plenty of guys who have great Thai wives. I would go as far as to say that the
sort of stories above are the minority and most men who settle in Thailand find a great woman. The cultural differences will always cause a few difficulties and Thai women certainly do a few things we find strange. As long as both sides are willing to compromise then it can all work out fine.

This is not a purely Thai phenomenon. I know men who have been fleeced by women in their
own countries. And the divorce rates in the west are so high that there is really no point in harping on about the number of failed farang-Thai relationships. This devious side of the Thai female is not a universal truth. However, these stories do seem to be more common here than elsewhere. I think it is mostly a by-product of the way many of these relationships started.

10 Reasons To Visit Phuket

The island of Phuket is the South's richest, busiest, most beautiful, most coveted, most visited, and the most popular vacation destination. Often nicknamed as the "pearl of the south" or "pearl of the Andaman," Phuket is the largest island of Thailand, located in the Southern Thailand, on the west-facing Andaman Sea coastline.

Phuket is your destination for limestone cliffs, snow white beaches, tranquil broad bays, and tropical in-land forests. It is famous for a wide range of marine activities, the best accommodation facilities with some of the supreme resort hotels, and elephant rides. It's your paradise for every sort of fun, whether you are looking for a quiet corner to get pleasure from a dreamy holiday retreat or an action packed time bounded by swaying palms, aquamarine seas and stifling sunshine. Certainly, you've a number of reasons to visit the island, but here are top 10 reasons for you.

The scenic beauty of Phuket is one of the major reasons to visit the island. Prompthep Cape is an illustrious beauty spot with great panoramic eye shots. It's a famous vantage point for watching out Phuket's spectacular sunsets.

Phuket's wild life is also a top tourist attraction. Phuket Zoo offers you great opportunity to watch and observe the wildlife and pleasure activities, such as monkey shows, crocodile shows and elephant shows. It's a nice place to picture wildlife in the Phuket zoo, having over 600 species of birds, 100 kinds of reptiles and amphibians, and 45 types of mammals living on its 10 hectares of area.

Buddhist temples are great lures of Thai culture. Wat Chalong, situated in the south of the island behind Chalong Bay, is one of the major attractions of Phuket. It is one of Phuket's biggest Buddhist temples, which is profoundly honored for the effigies of two of its early archimandrites (abbots) who had fabled healing skills. Positioned in the middle of Phuket Island is Wat Phra Thong Temple, also called Golden Buddha Temple. It is home to a huge half-buried Buddha whose fascinating history stretches back centuries.

Phuket Seashell Museum is another reason to visit Phuket. Located on Viset Road, near Rawai Beach, the Phuket museum features the collection of over 2,000 rarities including the only left-handed Noble Volute ever discovered, giant clams, 380 million-year-old fossils, and one of the rarest golden pearls of the world.

On the east side of Phuket Town, Koh Sirey Island (Koh Si Re) is also a great tourist trap. Accessed by a small bridge, the island has ear-shell farms, a few fine beaches, a temple on a hill and a sea gypsy village. Much of the island is hilly and you can drive all around the island in half an hour. Some of the inshore sights are unbelievably beautiful.

For pure entertainment, nothing can beat out Phuket Simon Cabaret, which is a market leader of specialized entertainment since its opening in October 18, 1991. This exciting place is famous for its special, lavish and intimate theater with high-tech sound and the unforgettably enchanting performers.

The Khao Phra Thaeo National Park provides you an opportunity to walk around and to relish the views and sounds of the tropical forest. Sited in the north of the island holding Phuket's last part of virgin rainforest, the Park is nice place to watch the striking waterfalls, and the gibbon rehabilitation centre that aspires to rehabilitate abandoned pet gibbons to the wild.

Located only three kilometers from the town, Phuket Butterfly Garden & Aquarium is a matchless experience for all nature lovers. Here you can watch an enthralling collection of several hundred of the best specimens of tropic butterflies, flying around freely under a huge dome. Its lavish plant life, watercourses, and ponds also provide habitat for a great collection of exotic insects and fish.

Patong Beach is the most illustrious beach resort on Phuket. With its wide variety of activities and nightlife, it is a perfect place to party and play. By night the town has a bustling nightlife that comprises virtually hundreds of eating places, chic lounge bars, beer bars and of course discos.

Phuket Island - Popular Travel Destination in Thailand

Phuket has grown into one of the premier holiday destinations in South East Asia and is one of the busiest travel destinations of Thailand. It has replaced Bali as the most popular holiday island in the region.

What makes Phuket island such a great travel destination?

Phuket is first of all an inexpensive holiday destination. Phuket hotels, resorts and guesthouses can be found in all price categories and ratings and prices are considerably cheaper then what one would encounter in Europe or America.

Dining in restaurants or buying drinks in bars or clubs on Phuket is also less expensive then what most tourists are used to paying back in their home countries.

Phuket Beaches

The palm tree lined beaches of Phuket Island are of course world famous due to its crystal white sand and clear water of the Andaman Sea. Some of the nicest and most popular beaches found on Phuket Island are the beaches at Patong, Kamala, Karon, Kata and Nai Harn.

Phuket Nightlife

The Phuket nightlife is another reason why many tourists visit Phuket each year on holiday. Many tourists seem to keep coming back each year for especially the nightlife and bars of Phuket.

Most Phuket island nightlife venues can be found in Patong beach along the well known Soi Bangla. A number of large clubs are located along Bangla road in Patong including the very popular Tiger disco and the new Seduction Disco.

You can also find along Bangla road and the many small streets leading into Soi Bangla hundreds of beer bars. Each beer bar has a number of beautiful Thai ladies working for them who there to please the clients.

Phuket Shopping

Going shopping in Phuket in the past was not one of the most interesting activities for tourists due to the lack of a good variety of shops and products. Most of the shops sold the same tailor made clothing, bootleg movies and software and fake designer clothing.

Over the last few years however, a number of large shopping malls have opened on Phuket housing well known international retailers, unique local boutiques as well as international restaurant outlets such as Outback steakhouse and Burger King.

If you are going to visit Phuket for a holiday then please make sure to visit the brand new Phuket Junkceylon mall in Patong or the Central Carnival Mall along the Phuket by-pass road.

International Soccer Teams Participate at Phuket Invite

The 8th Phuket International Soccer 7s Tournament will take place on November 27-28, 2010. Different teams from different countries will meet again to compete against each other in the goal to win the championship title of the annual soccer tournament. Now in its eighth year as an annual event, the Soccer 7s organizers and the people behind the event have been successful in inviting teams from all over the globe to showcase their talent, athleticism and camaraderie both in and out of the playing field.

Participants from all over the world include different teams from England, India, Singapore, Japan, Vietnam, Malaysia, Hong Kong, Australia, Cambodia, China, Germany, and of course, from its host country, Thailand. The global diversity of the teams and their players add up to the excitement of the game and the challenge of pure skill. Everybody is openly invited to form a team and join the competition.

The thing that separates this competition from other soccer tournaments is the lack of prize money for the winners. The thing that drives the participating teams to travel all the way to Thailand is showmanship and the desire to play. It is just passion in its purest form. The principle behind the success of the tournament is sincere camaraderie between the playing teams.

Healthy competition is the key to this contest. Proof that this works is the fact that it has been a continuing annual event, lasting for eight years already. Passion for the game, for friendship, for sportsmanship and for fun is what keeps the spirit of the game alive.

There are basically two categories in the Phuket Soccer 7s Tournament. These are the Open Men Category and the Masters Men Category. There are currently 24 teams registered under the Open category and 20 teams signed to the Masters category. There is also another tournament for soccer players, the Phuket Spicy Soccer 7s. The said tournament is turning three years old on February 2011.

An estimate of 300 games to be played by 88 teams originating from 18 countries is expected in the 8th Phuket Soccer 7s, together with the 5th Andaman Soccer 7s. Both tournaments are watched-out for events in Thailand by players and fans alike. The two tournaments will commence on November, with the Andaman tournament happening one week before Phuket's.

The venue of the games is tentatively decided to be at the Phuket International Academy (PIA) or the Karon Stadium. The locations are not only amenable to the playing field for the games; they are also convenient for players flying from different countries. This is because these venues are situated proximal to the hotels where the teams will check in and to the airport, too.

Of course, the organizers will not permit for the soccer teams to not experience the night life of Phuket. Relaxation and de-stressing are only fit for the players after a day of serious football business. Parties will be all around the city. The players can enjoy local food and specialty cuisine in various restaurants. Clubs and bars are open for their night time enjoyment.

How Safe is Phuket For Travel?

Phuket is one of Thailand's most popular tourist destinations, and yet visitor numbers are well down on previous year. The beaches and streets in Phuket are quiet and businesses are beginning to feel the strain. Thailand's political problems have been well documented by the media, so much so that the country is portrayed as being in complete anarchy. Although the problems have been centered in Bangkok, they have impacted Phuket. But what's the reality of the situation? Should tourists be wary of traveling to Phuket?

The short answer is "no". For a bit of perspective, Thailand has had numerous problems over the years, from coups to bombings. However, it was only the tsunami that really affected tourism in the long run. Thailand's internal problems usually create a few short-term ripples and the media writes of chaos in the streets, but for people living in Thailand, they will tell you that life goes on as usual.

In Phuket, tourism is way down. Hotels are nowhere near full and people on the island are saying that the effect on the industry will be worse in the long term than the tsunami. It's such a dire situation, but it's also completely unnecessary. Travel advisory warnings also don't help.

If you were to visit Phuket right now you'd see a peaceful island. There are no more dangers than normal and everything is safe. There's no fighting in the streets and tourists aren't being victimized or attacked. In fact, there's probably never been a better time to visit Phuket because the island is less crowded than usual.

The beaches are still there and the popular sites are waiting for visitors to trickle in. Of course, travelers should still exercise the same caution they would when visiting Phuket any time of the year. Traveling alone on a motorcycle at night isn't a good idea and care should be taken when out and about. But don't let the news reports put you off a trip to Phuket.

It's a sad state of affairs, but hotel-booking websites have been reporting a huge decline in bookings. The same is true of airlines, who are now throwing out offers left, right and center to entice people to visit Thailand. There are bargains to be snapped up at the moment.

So if Phuket is safe for tourists, then what about Bangkok, where most of the trouble has been? There have been protests and airport closures and all sorts. However, unless you had a plane to catch during that time, if you were in Bangkok, you wouldn't have noticed much out of the ordinary other than when you turned on the news. Everything carried on as usual. It always does.

After the most recent coup, the tanks and soldiers became a tourist attraction. The resultant protests were mostly jovial affairs with picnics and concerts. Some media reports were speculating that Thailand was about to become a bloodbath, similar to revolutions of the past, but such events didn't materialize.

Forums, blogs and phone lines have been inundated with people asking if Phuket is still safe for travel. It is safe, and it likely will be for a long time to come.

Choosing The Best Locations in Phuket

Phuket, the island destination in Thailand drawing the most tourists, offer a plethora of beaches, coves and bays. Deciding where on the island to book your hotel accommodation is an important step to a memorable holiday. Some like it secluded, peaceful and tranquil, some like the buzz of a busy holiday atmosphere and some like it somewhere in-between.

In this article we will give an abbreviated overview of the best and most popular Phuket beach destinations, what you can expect from the location and point you in the direction of some great hotels in each area.

Patong is without a doubt the centre of all activity in Phuket. It is alive with people, a congregation of restaurants, bars, pubs, shopping opportunity, water sports abound and even a large shopping mall, making it popular with those who likes an electric holiday atmosphere. A vibrant nightlife with an assortment of clubs and discotheques sees that the nocturnally inclined also have a blast of a time.

Patong is home to a large selection of hotels and sees some fine luxury accommodation options to more budget savvy and everything in-between.

If you would like to be close to all the action but not directly in it and out of earshot of any noise, try the 4 star Amari Coral Beach Resort, located in the southern most corner of Patong on its own private beach. La Flora Resort is another 5 star resident of Patong right in the centre of the beach. This stylish establishment offer accommodation for anything from single travelers to two bedroom villas for family vacationers. The brand new very hip and funky 4 star B-Lay Tong resort also needs to be mentioned. This Phuket resort is located to the upmarket northern end of Patong.

Pure white sand that glitters, Karon is the 2nd biggest of the primary Phuket tourist beaches. It is located just south, a 5 minute tuk tuk ride, from the glittering lights of Patong. Long and wide, it is debatable if Karon is not maybe the most sought after of all Phuket beaches. Many hotels line the road that runs parallel to the beach, but very little if any development has taken place on the beach. To the northern end of this beach several restaurants, bars and other commercial activity is centered. Probably the most upscale Phuket beach area, Karon is home to highly recommended hotel names the 5 star Movenpick Resort & Spa, Centara Karon Resort, Centara Villas Phuket and the Hilton Phuket Arcadia. Just recently the brand new 5 star Centara Grand Beach Resort opened its doors to the northern end of Karon. This Phuket hotel is in fact located directly on the beach and every room offers sea views.

Kata Beach is the smallest of the primary tourist beaches. White sands, crystal clear waters and Phuket hotels and resorts right on the beach. If you do not wish to have a road between your hotel and the beach, Kata is probably where you will find your choice of Phuket accommodation. All structures bordering Kata is low rise so views are unobstructed and set to stay this. A beautiful beach and area in general, Kata is a great choice, perfect for swimming and plays hosts to names like the luxury Mom Tri's Boathouse boutique hotel, Centara Kata Resort and the popular 4 star Andaman Cannacia Resort & Spa. All of which is recommended places of stay.

Surin Beach is home to several high-end 5 star hotels & resorts and is aptly referred to as millionaire's row. The beach is beautiful and the sand a fine white powder. These luxury establishments have also given rise to some top notch restaurants and wine bars. Suggest for discerning travelers, Surin will be a good choice. Names like The Surin Hotel (Formerly The Chedi Phuket Hotel) and Manathai Resort has made Surin their home.

Kamala Beach is located just north of lively Patong with its glittering lights and feverish nightlife. Kamala calls to those who like it quieter while still within easy reach of Patong. The southern end of the beach gets busier during high and peak season. Here, a range of restaurants and bars can also be found. However, simply head for the northern end all year round to find peace and quiet. Kamala is of course also home to one of the biggest Phuket attractions, The Phuket FantaSea. Kamala is home to, amongst others, the luxury Cape Sienna Hotel & Villas.

Bang Tao is an enormous 8 kilometer stretch of beach. The southern end of this beach offers a range of some nice mid range hotels while the north is occupied by the ultr luxury Laguna hotel complex. Just a little inland is a small market and the village of Cherng Talay. The predominantly Muslim community makes a living from fishing as they have been for generations. In Bang Tao you will spend most of your time on the beach, utilizing resorts facilities and activities or rent a jeep to check out neighbouring beaches. Not busy, not quiet and very little if any night life.

Mai Khao Beach is at almost 10 kilometers, the longest beach in Phuket. Situated at the northern tip of Phuket, this area has seen limited development and construction. If you don't like to share a beach with too many other tourists, Mai Khao is your place. This is an area to get away from it all and spend your time in quiet and tranquil seclusion, though the nearby location of the airport does bring some air traffic noise every now and then. Sala Phuket Resort and Spa and Anantara Phuket Resort and Spa are two quality resorts in Mai Khao that deserves a closer look. Be careful when swimming here May to October with strong under currents and a steep slope into the ocean making things hazardous.

Just south of Mai Khao is Nai Yang beach, home to the fabulous Indigo Pearl Resort. Once again, commercial development is limited. The setting is lovely and tranquil and like Mai Khao, it is removed from any major activity and Patong is an approximate 45 minute drive away. A good choice to spend a few days in blissful seclusion, recuperate and then head for a more active environment.

Well then, this should help you make a more informed decision before booking Phuket hotels. Teenagers' English Summer Camp - Leisure & Study

A vacation in Phuket Island is indubitably a wonderful idea to appreciate the white sand beaches and clear waters of Thailand in family. While adults are taking a rest, teenagers certainly want more fun activities of their own. An English summer camp in a reputable International school in Phuket is a great possibility as teenage children can have fun being with other youths while their parents enjoy more freedom.

These summer camps are usually for non-English speakers who learn English in addition to the practice of sports like football, swimming, tennis and golf. There are of course other options oriented more on sports for native English speaker teenagers. Phuket is the ideal place in Thailand for a summer camp. All the teens that participate in a camp are delighted and do not regret any minute to be there.

These camps are very educative with lessons and activities every day. When the children arrive at the International Phuket airport, a few teachers are present to welcome and drive them to the school by van. There are a few very big facilities with wide green areas including football pitches and several indoor halls for other sports. There are also swimming pools, generally a small pool for kindergarten and primary children, and a large pool for secondary children.

A summer camp is not only a solution to occupy children during a family trip, but a unique experience for young people who can be sent alone to Phuket and be very well taken care of by the school organizing the summer camp. There, they can meet friends of their age of different nationalities and have fun lessons like cooking in addition of the language classes. It is certainly a wonderful learning experience.

A camp generally has 30 students for a two weeks camp. During these summer camps, the teenagers have English classes normally in the morning and evening provided in classrooms with different proficiency levels. The classes are punctuated with snacks and drinks every two hours, and sport activities like basketball, badminton or football are organized in the afternoon.

Some activities for teenagers can also be arranged for shorter terms like a week or on a daily basis in some smaller schools or organizations. Kayaking, yachting, snorkeling, scuba diving, jet skiing and banana boat riding are great water sports that teenagers will enjoy on their own. And for those teenagers who want to stay with their parents, there are always a multitude of fun activities that can be enjoyed together as a family.

Participating in a English summer camp in Phuket can be a memory of a lifetime for many teenagers who will go back home with new friendships made. Phuket has top international facilities and schools that can accommodate parents and teenagers alike.

Train Travel is Cheap and Convenient

Train travel is a way to save money this summer, allowing you to take a family vacation. It can be considerably cheaper than air travel or traveling by car because the ticket price is not directly related to the price of fuel. Train travel is also much more convenient and hassle-free.

Discounts are available for many people that travel by train. All students, seniors and veterans receive a discount. AAA members receive 10% off. Children (ages 2-15) pay half price and one infant (0-2 years of age) per adult is free.

In addition to the many discounts offered, miles are earned each time you travel by train. These miles can be redeemed not only for free train travel, but also for free airfare. Amtrak, the major train company, also has a credit card that allows members to earn additional miles on all the purchases they make using that card.

Travel by train can be much more convenient than flying. Check-in is considerably faster at train stations than airports. There is no security to pass through. You just show that the name on your train ticket matches the name on your identification, if asked.

Train stations are conveniently located in the middle of the city, not on the edge like airports. This helps cut down on taxi fare to your desired destination.

When purchasing train fare, keep in mind that the price can vary between locations, so check the price from nearby cities to your destination. It may be cheaper to drive a little ways and catch a train from another city.

The price to travel by train also varies greatly by the accommodations chosen and services provided during train travel. It is harder to purchase regular coach seating in the summer, and around Thanksgiving and Christmas. These seats are usually booked well in advance. You can also choose from first-class seating, business-class seating and a variety of sleeping accommodations. Some of these rooms have showers and food provided. For other accommodations, food can be purchased on most trains.

Consider train travel this summer. Statistically it's much safer than driving. It can be a relaxing and peaceful ride, accompanied by beautiful scenery. Also, the price can be much more affordable than air travel or car travel.

Stop Off Destinations For a Trip to Australia

Australia is a long way from any other continent and so getting here can feel a bit like running a marathon. A good option is to break up the flight and include a stop off on your way to or from Australia. Another good idea is to stay a little longer and visit another country in the southern hemisphere whilst you are here.

This solution won't work for everyone though. You need at least 3 weeks to visit Australia so adding on a couple of 3 night stop offs will sadly reduce your time too much. One stop off for a couple of days however could be manageable.

Many travellers choose to do a stop over for a few days on the way there or way back from Australia. This also has the added benefit of breaking up the long flight and the jet lag. Asia is usually a classic choice for this and see below for more recommendations for stop overs:

Bangkok and Thailand

This is a popular holiday destination for the Australians as there are a few flight operators keeping flights competitive, and it's still reasonably cheap when you get there.

Here are some suggestions as to what to do whilst in Bangkok:

1) A must visit is the Grand Palace. Whilst you can't actually go into the Palace the buildings are beautiful and can be admired from the outside. This is the official residence of the King but is now only used for special occasions.

2) The Wat Sai Floating Market is a good one to visit and you can get on a barge outside the Grand Palace. It's also good to combine a visit to the Royal Barges Museum. They have some fabulous boats on display that have been used by the King.

3) For the best shopping go to the Chatuchak Weekend Market It's very large so its easy to get lost here. There is everything you could possibly think of here and it's also a good place to eat as there are plenty of restaurants. My advice is to get there early as the heat and crowds get worse as the day goes on. It is open from 7am.

4) If you would like to see more of Bangkok, then take a Segway Tour. This is a tour with a difference as you will be on a 2 wheeled electronic device. They are easy to use and they give you a real sense of freedom as you cruise the streets of Bangkok.

5) No trip to Thailand is complete without experiencing the Bangkok nightlife. Head to the city and take in a lady boy show or just enjoy a few drinks and watch the world go by.

If you would rather head to the beaches of Thailand then consider the area around Phuket. Jet Star fly directly to and from Phuket from Sydney and at certain times of the year there are special reduced fares.

I'd only recommend Phuket if you are a party animal. It's a bit like an Asian equivalent of Ibiza. It's a very big resort with hundreds of clubs and bars and restaurants. If you are after a quieter holiday then I would head to Phi Phi Island. This is a popular day trip from Phuket but a great alternative if you need some quiet time. It is near where they filmed "The Beach."

There isn't room in this article to explore all the stop off alternatives. Other stop over options include Kuala Lumpur, Hong Kong and Singapore. If you are travelling from the US then Fiji is a good stop off to break up the flight and see another beautiful island getaway.

If your trip to Australia is more than 3 weeks then I'd seriously consider a trip to New Zealand or even the tropical island of Bali. The flight times from Australia are reasonable.

Thailand - A Place For Everyone

If you are planning to make a stunning trip on this Summer, then Thailand would be your top destination. Well, better known to all the tourist for its white sand beaches, large coconut trees, blue sky and coastal mountain ranges; Thailand is the ultimate top choice for everyone. Being the melting pot for diverse cultures, this country is the regional hub for business, tourism and transportation. This land is constantly delivering its best values to everyone around the world. If you pick Thailand as your top destination then do not miss Phuket.

Thailand is a country in Southeast Asia. It is the 20th largest country of the world in terms of land areas. It has a population of about 66 million people. The official language spoken in the country is Thai, English is also spoken there. It is considered a mandatory language in the education and learning system. Other native languages are also spoken in the country. The larger part of the residents are believer in Buddhism, followed by Islam, Christianity and others. Most of its traditions and cultures have been affected a great deal by other cultures, among which you will find the Indian culture, the Chinese culture among others.

It has come to be known as a growing economy. The economic growth over the years has been greatly influenced by its strong exports. The exports earn the country over 100 billion dollars every year. The major exports are its rice (which is the country's main produce that has made it the world's largest exporter of
the crop), textiles, cars, jewelry, fishery products, electrical appliances, etc.

The Bangkok is the capital city and the largest urban area. It is the main economical center of the country. This is very evident especially by the fact that the city is home to all of the country's key commercial banks and other financial organizations. It is also home to many multinational corporations which have based their various regional headquarters in the city. This has been largely influenced by the lower cost for the workforce.

Phuket Thailand is an island also within the country. It is the largest island in Thailand. Phuket in itself is a province in the country. The island is known for its tin and rubber, two exports that have earned the island most of its wealth. It is also known to attract tourists who go there to visit its beaches and learn of its history.

The Best Beaches of Phuket

Phuket Island is one of the most popular travel destinations of Thailand. One of the main reasons why so many tourists visit  each year is because it has some of the finest beaches in all of Asia. If you love beach holidays then you should definitely consider visiting this magnificent island on vacation.

Phuket has a large number of beautiful white sandy beaches and most of these amazing beaches are located on the west coast of the island. If you are planning a trip to this Thai holiday island then there are several beaches which you should definitely visit and spend some time at. I have listed for you some of the best locations down below.

Nai Harn Beach

Nai Harn beach is my favorite beach on on the island and many expats prefer to spend their free days at this spectacular beach. There are only a few resorts at Nai Harn beach which is why you won't feel crowded at this beach. There are however a number of great little seafood restaurants at this destination and prices are generally very affordable. If you are looking for activities then you will also be happy at this excellent beach as there is a number of water sport companies located at this beautiful location on the island.

Surin Beach

Another very popular Phuket beach among the expat population is Surin beach which is located between Laguna and Kamala bay. This long white sandy beach is also home to some of the finest seafood restaurants of the island. This wonderful location generally only gets a bit crowded during the high season. There are a few resorts located in the Surin area however this area of the island is generally better known for its high end real estate projects.

Patong Beach

Patong beach is one of the most crowded beaches however many travelers certainly seem to prefer this. You will never get bored at this location as there are plenty of  vendors, massage ladies and water sport companies offering you jet skiing, water skiing and parasailing. If you enjoy shopping then please note that there are plenty of shops and boutiques which line the main road of Patong.

Kata Beach

One of the most popular beaches is most certainly Kata which is located just south of Patong. Kata is one of the longest beaches of Phuket so you can enjoy up to a certain level of privacy when spending the day at Kata. The water of the Andaman Sea is generally very calm during the tourist high season. During the low season there are some waves and during this period of the year you will find local surfers hanging out at this wonderful location.

The Bang Pa-In Palace

Among the line-up of well-known tourist spots in this ancient province is the Bang Pa-In Palace which has a history dating back to the 17th century. According to a chronicle of Ayutthaya, King Prasat Thong (1630-1655) ordered the construction of a palace on Bang Pa-In Island in the glorious Chao Phraya River. The King founded a monastery, Wat Chumphon Nikayaram, on the land belonging to his family estate on Bang Pa-In Island and then had a palace built to the south of that monastery and in the middle of the island where he could occasionally dwell. Wat Chumphon Nikayaram and the palace, encircled by a lake 400 meters long and 40 meters wide, are the remains of King Prasat Thong's construction work at Bang Pa-In.Historically speaking, the Bang Pa-In Palace served as a summer residence for royal members after King Prasat Thong. But when the new capital was instituted in Bangkok,

Bang Pa-In was no longer in use and left uninhabited for 80 years. It was demolished with the fall of Ayutthaya and was restored in the mid-19th century by King Rama IV, who was really fond of the place and periodically spent his summers there. Most of the buildings that can be seen today date from the reign of King Rama V (King Chulalongkorn). Today the palace is used occasionally by Their Majesties King Bhumibol Adulyadej (King Rama IX) and Queen Sirikit as a residence and for organizing receptions and banquets. The palace is currently located just a few miles down the Chao Phraya River from Ayutthaya.

The palace structures give a picture of various architectural styles, set in a large park around ponds and waterways. The only royal residence open to the public is the Chinese-style Wehart Chamroon Palace that was built entirely of materials taken from China. Moreover, there is an Italian-style palace, a circular pavilion with steps leading down to a pool, the refined Thai-style Aisawan Tippaya Asana Pavilion in the middle of a lake and, across one of the waterways, a Buddhist chapel in the Neo-gothic style with stained-glass windows. Within the extensive gardens are European statues and monuments commanded to be erected by King Rama V in memory of members of his family, one of them a dearly loved Queen who drowned in a boating mishap.

Some sites of interest in the Bang Pa-in Palace include Phra Thinang Wehart Chamroon, Phra Thinang Utthayan Phumisathian, Wat Niwet Thammaprawat and Memorial to Queen Sunandakumariratana. Phra Phra Thinang Wehart Chamroon is the Chinese-style two-storey mansion constructed by the corresponding of the Chinese Chamber of Commerce and bestowed to King Chulalongkorn in 1889. The ground floor consists of a Chinese-style throne; the upper storey houses an alter enshrining the name plates of King Mongkut and King Chulalongkorn with their respective queens. This Chinese-style mansion was the much preferred residence of King Vajiravudh or King Rama VI (1910-1925) when he visited Bang Pa-In Palace.

Phra Thinang Wehart Chamroon is so beautiful and astonishing that Prince Ookhtomsky, a personal escort of the Czarevitch, the future Czar Nicholas II of Russia, praised on a visit in 1890 that "It is really a palace of romance, with ornamented tiled floors, massive ebony furniture, gold, silver and porcelain freely used for decorative purposes and delicate fretwork on the columns and on the windows. Evidently we have before us the principal sight of Bang Pa-In. The Emperor of China himself can scarcely have a palace much finer than this!"

Phra Thinang Utthayan Phumisathian is situated to the east, opposite the pond. It is a two-story ornately erected building, which is painted alternately in dark and light green. Its balcony is the same in design as that of a Swiss chalet. Before being devastated by fire during the restoration in 1938, the entire building was built from wood and adorned with mahogany furniture imported from Europe. It was the favorite residence of King Chulalongkorn when he resided at Bang Pa-In Palace. Prince Ookhtomsky extolled it was "furnished luxuriously and with refined taste and comfort." Unluckily, it was burnt down by chance in 1938. The new building which replaced it was constructed in 1996 at the expressed wishes of Her Majesty Queen Sirikit. The water tank, disguised as a Neo-gothic tower, is only part of the original structure still existing.Built by King Rama V, Wat Niwet Thammaprawat looks more like a Gothic Christian church than a Thai monastery. Tourists can reach the temple by crossing the river in a small trolley-like cable car, which is free of charge. Meanwhile, the Memorial to Queen Sunandakumariratana is another place of high interest in the palace compound. In 1881, Queen Sunandakumariratana drowned when her boat sank in the Chao Phraya River while she was on her way to Bang Pa-In Palace. King Chulalongkorn was so grief-stricken and thus set up a marble obelisk as a cenotaph to her memory. The King also composed the dedication himself in both Thai and English.

The Bang Pa-In Palace is nestled in Tambon Baan Len, Amphur Bang Pa-In, which is 18 kilometers south of Ayutthaya. It lies 58 kilometers north of Bangkok by rail and 61 kilometers by road. To get to Bang Pa-In from Ayutthaya, one can go by Phahonyothin Road and make a right turn at Km. 35 for another distance of 7 kilometers to Bang Pa-In Palace. The palace is open to the public everyday from 08.00-16.00 hrs. The admission fee is 50 Baht.

Do You Really Know About Phuket Girls?

One of the most interesting parts of life in Phuket is watching the large number of tourists who flock to the island in search of girls. There are, of course, lots of girls in Phuket, but outsiders often come with a distorted view of what it's really like on the island. You may have heard stories about how easy Phuket girls are and how Phuket is like paradise on earth. Well, yes, it may be to some people, but there is more to Phuket girls than a stereotype.

It's amazing how often people seem to forget that the term "Phuket girls" is not simply a reference to bar girls. To bring everyone up to speed, a bar girl is a lady working in a bar, usually selling drinks, dancing or mingling with the punters. These girls will more often than not be there to pick up clients who will pay for sex.

So that's what a bar girl is, but on an island with a population of something like one million people, there are more than just bar girls. It may seem unfathomable to some people, but there are, in fact, girls on the island who don't work in bars and who have never even considered working in bars.

You can meet these girls easily enough. You can even ask them to go on a date with you if you have half an ounce of personality about you. Being connected is definitely one of the easiest ways to meet people in Phuket. Social butterflies expand their circles daily, so it pays to put yourself out there and meet people.

But what if you're only on the island for a few weeks? How are you going to meet the Phuket girl of your dreams and have a whirlwind romance? Well, you're reading this, so you're evidently able to use the Internet and are also fairly nifty with a search engine.

There are lots of websites that make it easy to meet Phuket girls. And no, they are not all websites offering Thai brides and whatever else in a package deal that usually ends up with you buying a house somewhere in Northern Thailand. Most people seem fairly adept at using Facebook and MySpace. These resources are your friends for meeting people in Thailand.

There are dedicated networks for Phuket on both of these websites, so you can connect with people without having to do more than click your mouse a few times. Though you may not be keen on meeting people through the Internet, it's really no big deal in Thailand and most people end up doing it at some point.

Another website, although this one won't be to everyone's liking, is ThailandFriends.com. This website is more like a dating site and it can at times feel a little overcrowded with foreign males searching for Thai pretties to try and seduce, but you can meet some decent folk through this website and there are regular get-togethers that you can also be a part of.

You can get all kinds of information and pics about Phuket girls over at the Phuket Vogue website.

Cheap Airfares In Europe, Not So Much In America

Getting cheap airfares these days isn't so easy, especially if you live in North America.

Meanwhile budget airlines are booming elsewhere in the world. In Thailand for example, you can fly from Bangkok to Phuket for about 30 dollars on Air Asia, a relatively new budget airline. Of course in Europe, you have airlines like Ryanair that offer incredibly cheap airline tickets between many European cities. You can go from London to Paris for fifty bucks, as long as you don't mind having no preselected seats and a very strict weight limit.

Those types of discount airlines haven't really made it over to this side of the pond. Still, with companies like Jet Blue etc you can find some decent deals, especially if you buy plane tickets early; or take advantage of last minute deals. In Mexico recently we've seen companies like Azteca Airlines, Volaris, and Interjet attempt to replicate Ryanair type of budget service; with varying degrees of success. In Canada cheap flights are very hard to come by. There's basically nothing in the domestic market...internationally, Zoom Airlines has just started offering cheap flights to Europe. Otherwise you may get lucky if you're traveling when a charter is.

With the web, shopping for air fares is easy. There are many companies selling plane tickets on the internet. From the comfort of your chair you can surf many different web sites until you find the best fare possible. This is power that only travel agents had just a few years ago!

Carefully check out exchange and refund policies - sites like Expedia for instance are known to be quite strict in that area. Most online air ticket sales use E-tickets - typically the company that sells you the tickets just emails it to you. Print it, bring it to the airport and have a safe and stress-free trip!

The author recommends Really Cheap Airfares for some great deals.
